What’s up cholos?
Dang, sounds like everyone has had a good week and that’s sweet Dad and Josh were both in the presence of Apostles! That is pretty sweet and not very many people have that special experience. That’s also crazy that Jeff and Becky are so close, I did think about them today (not knowing what day they were going to be here) so I guess I did feel their presence. Man I’m a little bummed, this week we had a baptism lined up for Sunday but it fell through. Her name is Luz (light) and she is 10 years old. She has been coming to church with a member for about 4 weeks and hadn’t been taught by missionaries. Not sure why. So we started teaching her at the member’s house so we could have the sister translate for us because she doesn’t speak very good Spanish. Friday she didn’t show up to our appointment so we went looking for her at her house. We had permission from her mom to teach her dad told her she couldn’t be baptized so were going to try talking with him and see whets up.
We are also helping a couple here get married so that they will be able to be baptized. The 14th of Feb is dia de Amor or love day here and people can get married for free so we are trying to help them get all the papers they need so they can get married (they aren’t married because they can’t afford it). The husband is a member but the wife isn’t. They have a couple kids who are member, but inactive so were working with them as well to try to get them on the straight and narrow. One came this week with his mom so that was good. Hopefully they will get married so that one day they can go to the temple and be sealed as a family.
I’m having a pretty good time here in Xadani, me and my comp, Elder Jaurez get along pretty well so that’s good. He likes to joke around a lot and we play a lot of jokes on each other. He doesn’t speak English which is good because I think my Spanish has improved a lot. I also know I’m receiving a lot of help from above. It sounds like everyone is doing good back at home so that’s great! I know this is short but I better get going. I just wanted to let you all know how much I love you. Were so blessed to live where we live. I hope you all have a good week and that all goes well. Until next week,

Hey Family,
Wow this has been a crazy good week and a lot has happened. That’s pretty crazy that there is still no snow there. A least you’re getting some in the mountains so that’s all that matters right. It sounds like everyone is doing good and that josh is having some good experiences so that’s good also.
Well I have some good news. Saturday we had 2 Baptisms!!! Their names are Manuel and Ofiela. They are about 35 years old and have three kids about the ages 7, 5, 3. Here is their story. The first time I met Manuel and Ofiela was actually on my first day here in Xadani. They are both very cool and they were ready for the gospel that’s for sure. The first lesson I had with them my comp (Elder Juarez from Saitiuo Coachulia) told me that we were going to try to place a date with them. We taught them the lesson and after invited them to follow Jesus and be baptized. They basically said no, but we invited them to pray about it and that we would pass by within the week to check up on them and see how they were doing. The next day we had an appointment fall through so we decided to go check up on them (This is the lady that had a dream and me and my comp were in it). We asked if they prayed and Ofiela told us her dream. Manuel still wasn’t sure if he was ready or not but we taught him a short lesson on how we receive answers from god. Afterwards, once again we invited him to pray about it. We passed by a couple days latter and checked up on him. We asked about his prayers and how he felt. Long story short we ended up inviting him again to baptism and he accepted!
On the day of the baptism it seemed like Satan was trying to do everything he could to stop us from having a baptism. Manuel is a bigger fellow so we were having troubles finding him a pair of white pants to wear. We actually had to have a member make a pair that day for him. After we found cloths for the both of them we had to travel 25 mins by taxi to the church in Juchitan and on the way there the Taxi driver hit a dog.... when we got to the church we went to check out the font. There we discovered that the once-filled font was completely empty of water because someone forgot to close the drain. All we had to do was find someone with a key to close it, a lot easier said than done. The person with the key was in the city of Oaxaca, 6 and half hours away. After brain storming for an hour we were finally able to keep water in the font by laying a piece of plastic over the drain and wrapping a decent sized rock in a white cloth and placing it over the drain. Lucky the font filled up pretty fast and we were able to have the baptisms. Manuel was definite a lot harder to baptize then Eddi because of his size. The baptism was awesome, 90% of it was in Zapeteco so I didn’t understand half of what was said but it was also probably my best baptism so far. The spirit was so strong. After Manuel was baptized he had a big smile on his face which was really cool to see because he is a man with little expressions ha-ha so for me it was super cool to see him smiling after. I could tell him and his wife could feel gods loving arms around them.
Sunday I and my comp confirmed them members in the church which was also pretty cool because they both said they wanted us to confirm them. Later after church we went over to see how they were doing and placed a new goal for them to get married in the temple. I showed them a picture of the Rexburg temple on my camera and they are excited and hoping one day they will be able to go with their family. Elder Juarez and I are going to try to find them a pic of the temple to put in their house so they can remember their goal.
The work here is going really good here in Xadani. I like it a lot here other than the heat and mosquitoes. The heat is horrible, and I’m always sweating but I know ill survive. I that everything is going good for you guys and that you are all being safe (Jared) be careful! I want you all to know how much I love you and how thankful I am to have the gospel in my life. It truly brings joy in happiness into people’s life’s I know it does and I have seen it. I better get going.

Hey family what’s up? This week has been pretty crazy and I didn’t get a letter from dad telling what’s going down there in Idaho so I’ll just start with my week.
Well this week I went on divisions with our Zone Leaders and spent a day with Elder Davis. He’s pretty cool and is from North C. The day we were going to switch back, he got a call from the Assistants in the mission saying that there have been a lot of changes in the mission and that I was going to be sent to a new area in Juchitan in the Ismo. They then told me that I had a couple hours to pack and then I was to go to the offices where they would take me to a bus stop and send me to my new area called Xadani (pronounced with a shadani) which is 6 and a half hours away from the city. Not goanna lie when I first heard I was a little bummed, I wanted a change in areas but not until after this change ha-ha. I also wanted to say goodbye to Eddi and Luis and some of the other people I became friends with but didn’t get the chance. We also had a baptism lined up for this Sunday and I was excited for that but oh well.
After I finished backing I went to the offices and then they took me to the bus stop to wait for my bus. I left the city of Oaxaca at 11p.m. and started the 6 and a half hour ride. It wasn’t the funniest bus ride I have ever had, it would get hot and then cold really fast and the road were super curvy and at time I thought I was going to be sick. It was also pretty hard to sleep so I was pretty tired the next day. When I got to Xadani it was 4:30 am. I met my new comp and we went to sleep at our District Leaders house where I slept in a hammock because there isn’t transportation to Xadani at 4 in the morning. The next day we work up and headed to the area.
Xadani is pretty cool from what I have seen. It’s a lot hotter here because I’m a lot closer to the coast (Juchitan is towards the bottom of Oaxaca on the coast). The first thing the assistants said to me was "it’s going to be hot bro!" and they weren’t lying, it’s hot. The only good thing is right now it’s the windy season here so it’s kind of windy like back at home and that helps keep it a lot cooler. Oh and here in Xadani a lot of people don’t speak Spanish..... They speak Zapateco. Spanish here is their second language so things here are pretty different. Sunday was crazy; the services are in Zapateco so I didn’t understand anything! It was like my first Sunday here in the mission all over again. The good thing is that there are a few people here that speak both languages. A lot of our lessons were going to have to have a member there to translate what we say in Spanish to zapateco in order to teach so it will be interesting.
I did have something cool happen, my first day here we taught a lady and after we invited her to pray about the things we taught to know for yourself if it is true. Well we passed by the next day and she began telling us of a dream she had. My Spanish isn’t perfect and at times I still get confused but from what I understand she had a dream and in this dream she was at a party but she said it wasn’t like a normal party there wasn’t any bear or anything bad there just a ton of people all dressed in white. She said that there were so many people there and she didn’t know anyone except three people. Me, my comp, and another elder. All in all it was pretty interesting to her about her dream. Afterwards she asked us what we thought it ment. We then taught her another lesson and it went really well. I’m still a little sad that I didn’t get to say bye to everyone in Cosijoeza, but the few days I have been here in Xadani have been really good. It’s a lot more of a farm town here and instead of just dogs running around on the streets there are chickens, pigs, cows, and horses. A lot of people here don’t have cars they use cows and little wagons instead.
I’m pretty excited to be here even though its hot but ill survive. I hope everything is going well for you guys since I didn’t hear from you. I just wanted to let you all know that I love you and pray for you every day. Be safe!

Yo,
What up family? How’s it going? First off I’m pretty upset to hear the cowboys fell short, again. I kind of Hope Atlanta take’s it.... anyway. That’s crazy that Taylor and Justin are home already. I’m pretty jealous that JC is going to Big Sky That is by far the best/coolest place I have been boarding and I know that she is going to love it and have a lot of fun. Have her take a lot of pics so she can send some my way when she gets home, also JC be safe! About my card I don’t have it with me right now so I can’t check to see when it expires, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t expire until 2013. I’ll make a note to check and then I’ll pass the info to you.
This week has been pretty good, Elder Flores and I get along pretty well and he’s a cool kid. He’s about five feet five inches so he’s kinds short, and has a broken collar bone (I sent you a letter explaining how last week so be looking for it) but he likes to work hard so that’s good. I have to help him a lot with things like washing clothes and all that but it’s alright. Service is good and he’s teaching me a lot so I need to pay him back somehow. Teaching wise we were able to find and meet with our investigators, however a lot of their progress is pretty slow.... we don’t have anyone with dates to be baptized but were going to try to place a date this week so I hope she accepts. We have been doing a lot of contacting again with little success... we have also been asking members like crazy if they know of anyone we can teach but we always get the same excuse that they don’t know anyone or talk to anyone other than those in the church so ya. Hopefully we will be able to find someone or family that will receive us.
The other day we were walking in the central and a guy started yelling at me in English asking if I spoke English and was like hey man talk to me, I miss English so I did. We talked for a bit and after a while I asked where he was from. He told me the name of the city but I forgot, somewhere around Texas on the border. He also told me that his city was famous for growing weed and that I should check it out.... he then said that he has been sober for three years and I told him that’s good and supported him in his decision of quitting. He then told me he was about to go "get money" and that his hummer was parked over there across the street. He pointed it out to me and as I looked I noticed that his "Hummer" was actually a bike chained to a pole. So after that’s I was like alright man I let you go and we left to meet with a less active member that lived two streets down from where we were. When we got to the member we realized that she wasn’t there so we started to do a little planning on what we could do next. As we were standing there I could hear this guy and his friends not too far behind us which wasn’t bad or anything, but it was getting dark, and his friends were drunk. SO I was like El Flores lets go dude. We started down this little street when I head one of his friends yell hey you wait. We turned around and the guys were running towards us, or I should say trying to he was pretty drunk. As he got closer he started point at the street and yelling "who’s the crazy one here?" in my head I was thinking.. "you are man calm down" he was acting really weird and it didn’t feel to safe, there weren’t very many people on the street just us, his friends and a few other people. I looked over to the guy I was talking to a few minutes earlier and lo and behold he was taking some puffs of weed.... I was like dude you aren’t sober. After a couple mins the drunk finally left us alone so we were able to leave. All in all it was a learning experience.
I do have some good news, Eddi and Luis have been coming to church every Sunday and Luis mom is actually the women we are going to place the baptism date with she comes to church and we have been teaching her for a bit. For some reason she just won’t commit to a date but I have a feeling she will this week. Oh and Eddi has actually asked how the papers work to serve a mission and that it’s something he would like to do.... ISN’T THAT AWESOME!!! I hope he keeps it as his goal and works towards it. Were always telling how cool missions are and how much you can learn from them.
I didn’t write down notes throughout the week on what to tell you guys so I’m out of things to write. Other than that I better go, but I just want you all to know that I know this church is true. I know that Joseph Smith was called a prophet by god and that he translated the Book of Mormon. We are so lucky to have all that we have in our life. I now know why everyone here wants to live in the states. Dad your right we need to speak up and share the gospel. Take the time and help those that you see in need. I promise you that if you sacrifice a little bit of your time to help those who are having a hard time or need help that the lord will make it rain blessing. I’m so thankful for you all and the support you have given me. I love you all so much and I hope and pray for your safety. I hope you have a good week and that all is well. Share the happiness that we receive from the gospel to those who haven’t yet received it.

YO,
What’s up family? Man it looks like you guys have been having some fun! I got the Pics of you at Temple square and it looked awesome. The one with the Temple was beautiful. That’s also cool about the train, I have never been one like that just the ones in the metros when I and Austin were in D.C. but it looked pretty cool! It also sounds like everyone has been working around the house and that’s good.
This week has gone by pretty fast, but it’s been a good week. We had changes but I stayed in the area and got a new comp. His name is El Flores. He’s pretty cool and I’m pretty excited for this change. We get a long pretty well and he works hard so were going to do work! El Flores is from Mexico City. He speaks a little English, but not as much as El Mtz so I’m also excited because I’m sure my Spanish will improve a lot this change. I think I already told you this in my last e-mail but I’m not sure, Christmas we spent some time with a family and had a little meal it was pretty good. I’m pretty sure I already told you. This New Year we didn’t do anything. We worked and after we went home and I ate some cereal ha-ha.
This week seems like we didn’t get a lot done but I didn’t get my new comp until Tuesday and by the time we got home it was late so we really didn’t do any teaching. I took Elder Flores around showing him where our invt. and members lived. We were able to teach a couple people including the family of Alberto (the guy el mtz and I gave a blessing). Alberto ended up not making it... he passed away Monday morning. We checked up on the family and asked if we could share a message with them (the plan of salvation). When we showed up there were quite a few people there. As we started to teach a man of about 55 walked in and sat down for a bit. At first I was like sweet were teaching a lot of people right now this is awesome (there was about 9 people). Well As I gave them the challenge to read the Bom the one man took it, read the first paragraph, and then went off for what seemed to be 20 min. on how it’s not true and a bunch of other stuff. This man was straight up mean. He went off saying how Americans are "bad people" because of some of our leaders like Pres Bush and Obama. He said a lot of stuff that’s not worth repeating. After a while of sitting and listing to him yell at us I started to bear my testimony, and when I did something cool happened. He actually stopped talking and listened! To me, it was a really cool experience. I could feel the spirit testifying of the truth of the book of Mormon and after the lesson was over he actually gave me a huge. It was kind of weird, because moments earlier he was saying how bad Americans are but never the less a cool experience for me.
Well that’s all I have for this week. I hope you all have a good week and travel in safety. I love you all and I’m very grateful for your support. Take care and ill write again soon.
Love Elder Hope!
